Practical Information

Getting Around

Getting around Yaren and nearby districts is primarily done on foot for short distances and by taxi for longer trips. There is no public transport system. Taxis are the main mode of transport; agree on a fare before starting your journey. For excursions to Buada Lagoon or Command Ridge, hiring a taxi for a round-trip with waiting time is the most practical option. Walking along the coastal road between Yaren and Anibare is safe and scenic.

Book Ahead

Hotel accommodation must be booked well in advance due to very limited options. Ensure your flight bookings to/from Nauru are confirmed. No internal tours need pre-booking, as exploration is largely independent.

Packing Essentials

Sturdy walking shoes, sandals, swimwear, sunscreen (high SPF), hat, mosquito repellent, reusable water bottle, Australian dollar cash, power adapter (Type I Australian plug), lightweight rain jacket, camera.

Total Budget

$670 (7-day estimate, excluding international flights)

Customize Your Trip

Budget Version

Stay at the more basic Od-N-Aiwo Hotel. Eat most meals from grocery stores (Capelle supermarket) by preparing simple picnics. Minimize taxi use by focusing on walks within Yaren and to Anibare Bay only. Skip any paid tours (none are included here anyway). Daily budget could drop to $50-60.

Luxury Upgrade

Book the best sea-view room at the Menen Hotel. Hire a private car and driver for the week for maximum flexibility and comfort. Arrange for a local guide through your hotel for the historical sites. Dine at the hotel's restaurant for every meal, sampling their best offerings. Consider a special-order seafood feast.

Family-Friendly

Focus on the beach day at Anibare Bay and the easy walks around Parliament. The museum is small and manageable for kids. The Buada Lagoon visit is a good nature stop. Ensure you pack all necessary snacks, games, and sun protection, as dedicated child-friendly activities are limited. Keep days shorter and include plenty of downtime at the hotel.
